Santoña, Cantabria, Northern Spain

We are making our way further west along the northern coast of Spain today. We’ve decided on the Berria Beach area of Santoña a town about 30 miles east of Santander. It’s a small site close to the beach with a bar and restaurant on site.

Before that though we desperately need diesel. It’s considerably cheaper in Spain and we didn’t quite manage to buy it in San Sebastián on our way in. I manage to send us the wrong way when we are 300m from our target petrol station so we then have to do an extra three miles on a complicated road system to get back to it but success our tank is full again!

We take the the toll road today around Santander and arrive at the campsite to find a sign saying Completo outside ie full! The whole area is rammed with parked cars and there’s lots of people wandering around but it’s Sunday so not unexpected. We have to do another loop to turn around at a roundabout but decide it’s worth me wandering in and asking as the sitedoesn’t look full. Success again. Juan Carlo sorts us out with a pitch.

We park up and wander down to the beach which is just lovely with its wide golden sands. We walk towards one end before turning around and deciding it’s time for a cold one. It’s now 3:55pm and food stops at 4pm in the campsite restaurant so we decide to eat as well. Nice garden to sit in as we enjoy the first Mahou beer of the holiday. Mahou was the beer of choice when my sister Paula and Mark and Lou lived in Madrid many years ago.

Back to the van for a while but we rouse ourselves to take a look at a lovely sunset.

Loving our northern Spain adventure so far.
