Josselin is our target today. It’s just under two hours away south west from St Malo. Who knew we were so close to Guernsey and Jersey!

We are aiming to stay at a local Aire alongside the canal, ten minutes walk into the village. It’s our first free one and small so we leave around 11am to hopefully get a spot. Happily we arrive and have a choice of pitches one of which is canalside which is fab. There are no facilities but we don’t need them for one night.

Once settled we have lunch on a bench on the canal just by our van and watch the world go by including a boat and a couple of canoes. Everyone passing says Bonjour and most Bon Appetit too.

A wander along the towpath takes us into the very pretty village and it’s amazing castle built in the 14C by the house of Rohan. Lord of the Rings lives on!

A tour of the inside is a little disappointing as it’s only three rooms downstairs but the outside is impressive and we enjoy the gardens.

The village is chocolate box pretty with flowers growing everywhere. The local church is worth a visit and of course we light a candle. We enjoy a beer in the square before walking back to the van.

Tonight will hopefully be a treat as we are eating out at a highly recommended local restaurant La Table d’Or. It does not disappoint. The food is wonderful, I enjoy Wild Bass and T has Cod both served with all sorts of yummy bits and sauce. A proper treat served in a restaurant with a great view and I discovered Chablis too! The coffee was to die for apparently.

A game of Rummikub that I actually won. The score is now 6-1 and and then an early night. Josselin is definitely worth the trip.
