We’ve carried the bikes around with us and today’s the day we’re actually going to use them.
It clouded over yesterday afternoon but today we have clear blue skies again and sunshine. We’re booked into Castle Howard for 11:30 so after a leisurely start we get on our bikes and on the road. The route is on quiet B roads but very very hilly so I’m glad for my e assist.
Castle Howard is lovely. Beautiful gardens with a huge lake. We walked all around the gardens in the sunshine. For the most part we had the gardens to ourselves so that was a treat. We stop for a drink and a piece of cake at the Boathouse Cafe sitting on the deck.
The Resevoir Spicy orange cake
The Temple of the Four Winds is lovely but we’re not sure of it’s purpose. We can see The Mausoleum on the distance.

We end our visit enjoying a sandwich and cake and a cuppa in the Rose Garden which is full of white tulips.
The cycle back was even harder and steeper than expected. After a rest in the sunshine we walked to the local pub The Grapes that opens at 5pm. It’s busy but we find a seat in the sunshine and enjoy a pint and a couple of starters for dinner a little earlier than usual. It’s starting to get a little cooler so we move under cover closer to a log burner for a final drink.

Back to the van. We say hi to the sheep in the next field and then watch a terrible movie ‘Now you see me’ on DVD to end another good day.
