Start the day with the delayed final run of week 2 of the couch to 5k. Out of the campsite along the promenade and down to the marina then along the wharf to the lighthouse and back again. I’m not a natural runner at all but it feels good afterwards if not during!
It’s a bus day today so early afternoon we take a thirty minute ride into Gijón, south east of us on the Bay of Biscay.
Heading towards Gijón’s waterfront our first stop is a wedding. There’s a crowd of well dressed guests outside a church waiting for the bride and groom to appear so I’m keen to loiter outside with them and hopefully get some photos. We have to be patient but eventually see the lovely couple and enjoy the confetti cannons.
Onto the seaside where we stop for refreshments. Further along the beach there’s a huge children’s beach rugby tournament taking place.
Next is an enjoyable visit to an aquarium followed by a beer in the restaurant overlooking the beach.
Back to the railway station for our return journey where we enjoy a small beer before heading to Perlora and Candás.
After a couple of hours of downtime T and I stroll back into Candaś to meet Mark and Jacky and look for somewhere to eat. Everywhere is very busy. We don’t find a restaurant but enjoying seeing all the preparations for the Corpus Christi festival and procession tomorrow. The tableaus are made with coloured salt and some are very elaborate. It’s definitely a huge community undertaking with three months of preparation!
Eventually we find a restaurant at the marina where as always we order too much food and enjoy a shared feast.
Another good day in Northern Spain.
