Dinan, Brittany

Onto Dinan in Brittany today. We are booked into a municipal campsite. We arrive around 1:30pm and enjoy a cuppa and a sausage roll whilst waiting for reception to open up at 2pm.

We get set up and then go out to explore. Our walk to the town walls takes us through the local park which is busy with families and has a crazy golf course and aviaries.

Once inside the town walls our first stop is Tourist Information where we buy a map for 20c and get lots of helpful info.

Dinan is famous for it’s medieval ramparts, cobbled streets and half timbered houses. We walk up onto the ramparts, past the castle, for fabulous views across the countryside and down to the river and marina. There’s a wonderful arched road bridge towering through the valley.

Next is Basilique Saint-Sauveur which has gorgeous colourful stained glass windows and soaring gothic arches. A lovely church.

We are feeling a bit peckish now, so stop for a platter of cheese and meat sitting inside as it’s a bit chilly.

We continue our wanderings  soaking in the ambience of this ancient town and it’s cobbled streets and half timbered houses. It really is rather lovely.

Back to the van for some telly. We start watching netflix until a campsite wide power cut so switch to watching Serenity on DVD. Luckily we have solar power charging our leisure battery. Eventually they fix the issue but by this time we are committed to the movie. It really is a great film.

A good day full of interest, history and fabulous views and architecture.
