It’s interail day today. We leave our apartment at 11am and travel to Busto Arsizio in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy, 35km south of Milan to meet our friends who are flying in from London this morning. It’s a short but two train journey.

We buy lunch supplies for everyone and then all take the first train on our journey to Switzerland stopping near the border in Domodossola. It’s still sunny and humid and we sit outside the station and enjoy a pint in what we think is going to be the last sunshine of the trip as the forecast for Interlaken is poor. The town is surrounded by the Alps which is fab.

Next train takes us to Brig in Switzerland and then a final change in Spiez onto Interlaken. We see mountains and forests and travel through many tunnels.

Interlaken is warmer and brighter than expected with the sun occasionally peeping through. Our apartment is only 5 mins from the station and has a nice balcony with a view of Harderkulm mountain.

Tea, coffee and cookies are enjoyed on our balcony. A bit of shopping and then a visit to our local pub across the road at the Happy Inn Lodge followed by doner kebabs and chips back at the flat. A good start to our third railway adventure.
