Killiecrankie, the Battlefield of Culloden and Loch Ness

On the road towards Inverness we stop at the Pass of Killiecrankie made by the River Garry. It’s a deep tree covered gorge with a spot called Soldiers Leap where a Redcoat soldier in the 17C leapt 18ft across the raging river escaping the Jacobites.

Next stop is Culloden visitor center and battlefield. It’s 6 miles east of Inverness. Pass through the Cairngorms with their snow covered summits and follow a whisky tanker for a while.  Tony really enjoyed the Culloden experience, me not quite as much. Best bit was an immersion room showing a reenactment of the battle.

Our final destination for today is Loch Ness. We are staying near Foyers, about midway along the 23 mile long loch on the quieter southern shores and as we drive alongside to our campsite it is glistening in the sunshine.
