It’s a five minute trip to the ferry at East Cowes, so time for another cuppa and the last of the homemade Bara Brith which still tastes lovely.

On the ferry we try and decide where to visit and stay and after much reading and googling we land on Winchester to visit. It’s a calm crossing after two days of storms and ferry cancellations which we are very thankful for.

Out of Southampton and onto Winchester aiming for the park and ride, we discover on arrival it’s a park only on Sundays. At least it’s free and there’s a pleasant riverside walk along the river Itchen into the city centre.

There’s a lively market on the high street and we enjoy churros dusted with cinnamon sugar on the way to the cathedral. Shockingly the cathedral is £14.90 each to visit. I decide to enjoy a half in the pub whilst T visits. He reports that the vaulted ceiling is impressive and the Winchester Bible which they think was penned by the same man over five years is beautiful.

The M3 is closed at Winchester for two junctions whilst they put in new bridges so when we leave at 3:30pm it extends our journey by 45 minutes so we only just make it to our overnight stop in The Fox Inn at Steventon by dusk.
We park up and then order roast dinners as we are now both ravenous. Back in the van to catch Fridays episode of Celebrity Traitors. Wow those faithful are really bad at this game!
A too much driving kind of day.
