Ribe

We wake up to clouds and blue skies and a bit of sunshine so fingers crossed that we don’t get the showers that have been forecast. Late morning we move to another pitch with a bit more length to it and a better view.

Campsite fishing ponds

We originally intended to cycle into Ribe but due to my misbehaving bike we are walking. We pass a line of small plots of land with a cabin and garden on most of them and assume they are weekend holiday cottages.

Following the cycle path to avoid walking on the road we wander through another gorgeous graveyard with striking gravestones. This one has lots of wildlife areas with mown paths.

Into Ribe itself which is Denmark’s oldest town, we explore its crooked buildings and cobblestone streets dating back to the 9th century.

Ribe Domkirke the oldest cathedral in Denmark dating back to 948 is impressive and lovely inside.

T visits the tower and I read in the sunshine. We treat ourselves to a lovely lunch in the square behind the cathedral entertained by folk dancers. Our lunch includes a bit of red and black caviar as well as salmon and prawns but we are slightly taken aback that we have to pay for tap water. Apparently it’s a thing in Denmark.

We enjoy a walk down to the waterfront and share an ice cream made with milk from local jersey cows.

Finally we wander along the Ribe Å riverfront to the site of the Riberhus Slotsbanke fort and moat for good views back to the town.

Back at the campsite we manage one drink outside before the promised rain finally arrives.

Flycatcher extraordinaire

Wrexham are promoted to the Championship and we eat snacks for dinner.

A enjoyable day in a lovely town,
