Sollerön, Lake Siljan, Dalarna County

Further north again today up to Lake Siljan. After a lovely quiet night we drive about a third of the way and then find a Lidl to stock up the fridge and our beer. Prices seem similar to the UK and I recognise a lot of what’s on sale as I regularly shop at Lidl at home. One difference though is that you can only buy beer up to around 3.5% ABV and no stronger beer, wine or spirits. They have government owned off-licenses called Systembolaget for the stronger stuff.

It’s a gorgeous drive again today a bit more undulating with some hills in the distance. Lupins are blooming everywhere. It is a beautiful country. So much space and land and green.

The campsite is on Sollerön island in Lake Siljan that we cross a couple of bridges to get to. Lupins are glorious here too.

Sollerö Camping is rather posh and well organised and a bit pricier than our normal so far but at £33/night still cheap compared to the UK. We are staying here for three days. Originally we thought of being in this region for Midsummer which is the coming weekend, but it’s uber expensive then and was fully booked anyway so we came a little earlier.

Our pitch is perfect. On the corner overlooking the lake with facilities close by that are free and we are hooked up to electricity. We can’t get new gas bottles in Europe and we use it for cooking and to run the fridge when we’re off grid so trying to be sensible with it.

The sun is peeking out and the lake looks gorgeous. However by the time we setup and make lunch it’s raining so back inside we go. Later on I can’t be bothered cooking so we end up having bread and pate and plan to hit the cheese and crackers as our main.

It rains all afternoon getting heavy at times but finally around 8pm we can get out and explore. It’s a beautiful spot. The site is a mix of seasonal and touring with a few cabins.

We enjoy watching Dept. Q on Netflix for a change. It’s get a little wild later with thunder, rain and wind but we are cosy in our van.

A falling in love with Sweden day.
