Lake Bala and Dolgellau

First trip of 2022 !

It’s February and day one is bright, occasionally sunny and dry. This time we are planning to be on the road for a couple of weeks in Pembrokeshire. We booked all of it in advance as there are limited options for campsites at this time of year. It’s easier to do all the planning at home but obviously that makes our trip less flexible. If the weather isn’t kind or we aren’t enjoying a campsite or location we’re basically stuck.

After a bit of map reading we stop at Lake Bala which is literally on the road to Dolgellau about 30 mins from the campsite. We enjoy a butty and a cuppa lakeside watching three hardy wild swimmers in the distance. It’s chilly lakeside so it must be baltic in the lake.

We are staying at Tan-Y-Fron campsite. It’s on a hillside with great views of Dolgellau and down the valley.

We set up quickly and enjoy a cuppa and half an eccles cake. I start my blog and then do a wordle followed by sudoku.

Early evening we walk into Dolgellau which is only half a mile down the road. It’s a sprawling town with lots of independent and niche shops.

Our first stop is the The Royal Ship Hotel. A little lacking in customers and atmosphere but it is early.

Next stop is the Unicorn pub which is a lot livelier.

We eat a delicious dinner in the Torrent Walk and have a final drink in The Cross Keys.

It’s been a good start to our trip.
