Beverley, Yorkshire

The gas is finally fixed! We decide to sneak in maybe our last trip of the year. Initially we think of visiting the Lakes but after consulting the weather forecast decide on travelling further east.

It’s an easy just over two hours journey to Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire. We are staying on a small campsite with electricity and waste disposal but no facilities but it’s literally a ten minute walk into the centre of Beverley so very convenient.

We fight with the metered electricity setup for a while but suss it helped by a photo as the QR code has disappeared and the location number is very faded and we need it to put some money on the meter!

After a cuppa and a late lunch we spend a couple of hours in the van before leaving early evening to wander into Beverley. Good views of the beautifully lit cathedral.

We stop in the Sun Inn which is absolutely rammed with a two piece band called Milestone entertaining the crowd. The atmosphere is lovely and the band are very good. We enjoy a couple of drinks soaking up the atmosphere, and enjoying the tunes. You can’t beat a happy packed pub.

Food is calling so we reluctantly leave and find a modern Greek restaurant just up the road where we enjoy Florina peppers and keftedakia, pork meatballs followed by chicken souvlaki and roast potatoes & kefalograviera. Food is excellent.

Back to the Sun Inn but the entertainment is done and it is now very empty so we only have a half before trying the Lord Nelson for a final drink. We wander home in the dark with our torch for the unlit bits.

A very good start to our trip.
