Our Scandi Adventure Ends

A sunny straight forward trip home this morning to end our adventure. Some stats from our trip that we’d like to remember.

49 days away visiting 8 countries in order :- England, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Belgium and France, some of them twice.

4,165 miles travelled, 111 hours of driving, our average speed was 37mph and we got 31 miles to the gallon.

We travelled through too many tunnels to count, the longest of which was 5.1 miles long. We didn’t count the many bridges either but the most memorable was travelling from Denmark to Sweden over the Øresund Bridge, eye wateringly expensive but loved it for its part in one of our fave Scandi noir series Bron/Broen and the never forgotten Saga Noren.

We took the van on 7 different ferries and our bikes on 2 ferries and ourselves on 1 river ferry and 1 canal ferry.

We had 14 non driving days, 12 days when it rained and 26 days when the sun shone, sometimes rain and sunshine on the same day.

We stayed in free park ups for 19 out of the 49 days so 39% of the time. 24 one day stops, 8 two day stops and 3 three day stops.

There were so many highlights. The majesty of it all in Norway the mountains, fjords and incredible vistas. We loved the Atlantic road and the Hemsedalsfjellet mountains. Even got to love the tunnels some long and incredibly steep, hairpin bends zig zagging up and up and roads that turn into ferries!

And the greenery. Sweden a country of forest and lakes. Sollerön Island and Lake Siljan were lovely. Cycling on Visingsö island was such a fun day. T spotting a Moose was mega!

Island hopping to Langeland in Denmark was fun. Fanø island and Ribe are just packed with history and interest and we enjoyed a most incredible sunset at Rätan. At Ladby we were blown away by the remains of a Viking ship and Bremen in Germany was lovely.

Scandinavia is so different to home. Just being able to park up in random places with incredible views for free.
All just an amazing experience !
