After looking at ferry options and campsites to visit Gothenburg in the end we decide not to visit. For the first and only time in Sweden there was lots of mention of bikes being stolen from the back of vans and vans being broken into so we didn’t want to take the chance. So instead we are driving to Halmstad where we can get a ferry to Denmark on Thursday.

After a gorgeous day yesterday it’s now grey and overcast and raining heavily for a while. We are taking the motorway for speed so stop at a rest stop to empty our black waste. So convenient compared to the UK.

As we get further south the sky brightens and it gets significantly warmer. We are hoping to stay alongside the Nissan river close to the city. There’s two sites alongside each other and we get into our second choice. It’s very busy already by early afternoon with only a few spots open so feeling lucky.

Lunch outside in the sunshine and we sit and swelter as it feels like a heatwave at 27°. A local stops by for a chat. Max is actually originally from Manchester, met a Swedish woman in Greece thirty years ago and married her. We share a cuppa and chew the fat.

Off into Halmsted to explore the city. There are huge apartment blocks overlooking the river and lots of lovely planting. Some impressive older buildings too. We cross a bridge and find a bar for a cold beer.

After wandering around for a while we follow the sound of music and happen across a free music festival. The beer areas are separated from the rest with 18+ signs. Enjoy a can watching the world and enjoying the buzz.

We are now on the lookout for food and eventually decide on an Indian meal for dinner. Food is good. It’s our 37th wedding anniversary today so it’s a coincidence that we can celebrate with a meal out!

We wander back to the van and share a final beer outside. It’s still very warm.
