It’s a beautiful morning as we leave the park up and head to Halsa to catch a ferry towards the Atlantic Road.

On the way we top up the diesel and empty the toilet cassette. It’s been surprisingly easy to find service points in Norway so far.

It’s a fabulous drive with blue skies, bridges, steep tunnels and long tunnels and gorgeous views.

We literally drive onto the ferry and then it’s off towards Kanestraum, a twenty minute crossing. We have only a vague idea how much it costs as we have a tag on the van for tolls and ferries so you literally just roll on and it reads the tag.

The Atlantic Road is a scenic drive on the west coast and connects islands and islets via a series of eight bridges whilst hugging the ocean so we are looking forward to experiencing it.

Off the ferry we drive towards Kristiansund and the start of the 8.3km roadway at Kårvåg on Averøy island. The sun is still shining and it’s lunchtime so we stop for sandwiches at the first pretty park up we see. Gorgeous little spot with lovely views and picnic benches.

Off again and this time we make it to the Atlantic Road. The sky has turned grey and it’s spitting. We stop towards the beginning at a park up called Geitøya in distant sight of the famous Storseisundet bridge on the road, known for its unique design.

A wander around taking a few photos before we retreat to the van as the rain comes in. It’s a beautiful spot with water on either side of the spit of land the road sits on.

It finally stops raining around midnight so we pop out again and T climbs the rise behind us to get a photo of the bridge. The sky is awash with yellow and blue streaks. Beautiful.

A lovely varied day full of anticipation.
