Gränna and Lake Vättern

A lovely sunny morning which is always appreciated. We chill by the van and enjoy the slow start. We also squeeze in another wash and dry so should now be set for a good while.

We wander down to the lake and along the breakwater as it’s then a circular route into Gränna. It’s a beautiful day and Lake Vättern looks perfect.

Part of the route is in front of another campsite that we considered. It’s more expensive than ours and we are happy with our choice especially the free laundry. The amenities are also top notch and we like our pitch.

We walk back up to Gränna through a churchyard. We’re a fan of churchyards here. The headstones vary and they are laid out in a more casual pattern. It all feels more rustic and natural surrounded by lovely planting.

Up another hill to visit Gränna Church. It’s huge surrounded by grass with another lovely graveyard at the back. Inside there’s a chap setting up for a concert so we hear a tune.

On into Gränna itself. Lots of shops selling red and white ‘polkagris’ peppermint candy canes, which this place is famous for. Homemade ice cream is everywhere too. We see the polkagris being made by some poor chap wearing a crown. We buy a fridge magnet, a rock ‘dummy’ as a Christmas decoration and another necessity, an oven pad covered in moose for the van. I think it’s the closest we are going to get to one.

T gets a coffee ice cream and I get honey and walnut and both are delicious.

Back to the campsite via a shop which is uber expensive so we only buy onions. There’s a lovely garden on our way back down to the lake with paintings by local school students some of which are accomplished. We cross a boule park that has about fifty pitches on it so it must be popular.

Back to the van to sit outside, eat chicken stir fry and noodles and enjoy a lovely evening with the locals.

A lazy sunny day.
