Martigny, Normandy

We leave a sunny Veulettes-sur-Mer and make our way to Martigny also in the Seine-Maritime region of Normandy.

We are staying at Camping Des 2 Rivières which we visited back in 2022. It’s a lovely spot with pitches overlooking the river or large fishing lake. Pitch 54 is in a great position, a third of the way along overlooking the lake. We are sideways onto the water so have to deal with the slope by raising one side of the van with our block wedges.

Once set up, we decide tonight Saturday, is the evening to visit a local restaurant as the weather looks better tomorrow and we’d like to BBQ again. I book a table at the Auberge de la Forêt in nearby Arques-la-Bataille.

After getting ready we leave at 5:45pm for a 7pm booking intending to stop at a couple of local bars for a drink.

The gate out of the site we were instructed to use by Google looks permanently locked so we use the Avenue Verte gate instead.  That closes at 8pm so we can’t come back the same way. It’s now a 30 minute walk to the restaurant with a stop at a tabac for a beer as we are so early.

Tabac
It did get busier 5 minutes later with families

The restaurant is locked when we arrive. There is someone here though, although he looks about 12, and we explain about our booking in broken french but it seems it doesn’t officially open until 7:30pm! Anyway we order a drink, get delivered some lovely salmon pate with it and peruse the menu with the help of Google translate. T has oysters, steak, cheese and Tarte Tatin washed down by Sancerre. I have Turbot and share his dessert as I’ve ate most of the pate. The food is delicious.

It’s a strange place as we are there on our own until 8pm. Eventually three more separate couples arrive and a table of four around 9pm.

We walk back into Arques-la-Bataille and have a final beer in the local Turkish restaurant before making the rest of the way home down the main road arriving back after 10pm. An geographic and culinary adventure.

A fun day of wandering and good food.
