Castleton, Derbyshire

Off to Castleton today for a few days away with family. Rach,  Elijah and Nala were supposed to be coming with us today but as Elijah’s been poorly they are joining us tomorrow morning instead.

A pig of a journey that’s takes us 45 minutes longer than expected due to a road closure as a result of a bridge collapse near the campsite. We were nearly there and then we weren’t!

This campsite is the first one we visited when we bought the van back in March 2018. There was snow on the ground. It’s different today. Actually feels like summer at last. We bag a lovely corner pitch with plenty of space for Elijah and Nala to play on and it’s close to the facilities.

The sun is shining so we enjoy a cold beer and a snack sitting outside. We seem to have our own friendly pair of robins that are very unafraid sitting on the steps of the van and hunting for crumbs. At one point one of them flies into the van and T has to open a window to chase it out!

The campsite is only ten minutes walk from the village so after something to eat we wander into the village and try many of the pubs. Six of the seven in fact. T is happy as two of them serve his favourite beer. My favourite is The George. Enjoy the bell ringing practice as we wander about too.

Back to the van for a bit of telly before bed.
