Our first stop today is a visit to the renowned Giants Causeway. It’s a National Trust site so we can park for free and use the visitors centre. It’s actually free access to the causeway itself.
The car park is large and busy but not full. We walk down the trail rather than take the bus. It’s wet and windy and a bit wild on the way down. For a Monday lunchtime this place is busy but must get even busier at weekends and in the summer.

As we round the bend and see the causeway for the first time people are all over it looking a bit like ants. I don’t think we are seeing it at it’s best. Very early or late would be a better time to visit I think.

After clambering across the stones, T slightly more adventurous than me, we wander around into the next bay and see the ‘giant’s organ’ and ‘gate’.

I wander back the way we came and T climbs the hill and takes the more challenging ‘100 steps’ stairway route back to the visitors centre. I’m tempted by the bus back up the hill but resist.

Back to Bushmills where we are staying in a car park overnight. When we got here it was full of cars and coaches. Now at nearly 6pm it’s motorhomes and very few cars.

We walk across the road to the Bushmills Inn for a half. It’s a hotel rather than a pub but with a pleasant bar. Next is Bush House pub, with a tiny front bar and a couple of bigger back rooms. We have a pint there and wander down the road to the only other pub in Bushmills which is Finn MacCool’s but it’s closed.

Back to the Bush House for a final drink before we get fish and chips from The Flash In The Pan which we eat in the van.

Another good day in County Antrim.
