We leave Saint-Pere today and head south and west towards the Loire valley. We’ve booked a municipal site in the centre of Bourges. It’s going to take the best part of three hours we think. We are about 45 mins out when we see deviation signs for Bourges but we decided to keep going, pretty sure it’s too early to turn around. Anyway another 20 mins down the road and the N151 which is the major non toll road into Bourges is totally blocked off. The deviation sign points at what looks like a very narrow almost single track road to Pouligny, but the village is too small to make it onto even our detailed road atlas! We watch a few cars go that way and eventually decide to chance it and hope we don’t meet anything big coming the other way. Luckily we don’t. In a village where we’ve stopped not sure which way to turn, some nice locals put us back on track. We eventually land about an hour later than we expected.

The campsite is large but packed in tight with motorhomes or camping cars as they call them over here on what seems every available bit of grass. Lots of tents and caravans too and lodges to rent. It’s Saturday so the place if full of people away for the weekend. We eat a very late lunch and then move back inside Luci as it’s raining again.
Around 7pm the rain has cleared so we make a break for freedom and wander around to the local park which has a wonderful avenue with soaring plane trees.

We find a couple of bars and enjoy a beer sitting outside. The first one was called Bar de Barbes which we walked into just as my friend Barb called me. Spooky.

Our final beer was sitting riverside on the Auron river. It’s so slow moving it looks absolutely still and is full of plants and reeds and lillies.

Back at the van we have tiny samosa and spring rolls for supper. We were hoping that the pizza van next to the campsite would still be open but no luck there. Continue enjoying the Night Agent on Netflix. A calm end to our slightly stressful day.
