We wake to rain dancing on the roof. It’s torrential. So we enjoy a nice breakfast, shower in the van and plan our next stop. We use search for sites and park4night websites which are invaluable and our trusty lonely planet guide.

Around 2pm the rain finally passes and we take the bus into Troyes centre. No real clue where to get off but we choose the Halle stop which is a huge market currently having it’s siesta. Our first church of the day is Eglise San- Remy. It’s beautiful inside awash with gorgeous stained glass windows. Lighting our first candles of the day one of which is tall and slender I send prayers into the universe.

Wandering towards the cathedral we pass along a canal and then walk by a lovely garden with very elaborate and ornate gates fronting was used to be a hospital.

We are now in the medieval bit of the town with its colorful, half-timbered houses and cobbled streets mostly dating from the 16th century.

The Cathédrale Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul is a imposing gothic affair with soaring columns inside and beautiful stained glass windows. More candles lit!

It’s starting to spit a bit as we wander towards Eglise Saint-Nizier which is shut but we take a photo of the tiled roof hiding under a nearby tree.

Last church of the day is La basilique Saint-Urbain de Troyes which is my least favourite but we wander in for a couple of minutes.

It’s definitely time for a very late lunch of a charcuterie plate and du pain sitting outside with a large beer. Lovely.

After our break we go hunting for Cat street, Ruelle des Chats, famous because the roofs and lofts are so close together that cats can jump across from one side of the street to the other and where you had to squeeze yourself to the side to avoid passing horses!

The old town is just gorgeous around here with it’s multi coloured half timbered houses.

We catch the bus back to the campsite, enjoy our first g&t of the holiday and just have a snack for supper watching The Night Agent on Netflix. Happy that the rain held off today and we managed to see this rather lovely medieval town.
