Le Nouvion en-Thierache

Lots of doing not very much of anything in the morning and into the afternoon but we finally rouse ourselves and go for a walk in the nearby forest. It’s very quiet and full of strange wooden platforms that we think must be used as shooting platforms but we’re not certain. Towards the end of our walk there’s a stone cross monument dedicated to hunters so we may be right.

We pass a chateau that the son of the king used to live in back in the day. It looks empty now though. Edit. T tells me that this was owned by a direct descendant of the last King of France …so nearly correct!

On our way back to the campsite we see signs for a free concert literally 200yds from van and have a nose at the set up. It looks good.

Back in the van we can hear the sound check very clearly! Obviously we have to go. It starts at 8pm and the first band called No Tribute come on around 9pm which is when we arrive. They’re very good and really get the audience going. It’s well attended with a good crowd sitting and standing. They are serving beer and champagne at reasonable prices too! The second band Katraz come on around 10:30pm and are pretty terrible and rather ancient – head banging and not very good music but we really enjoy the evening.
