We discover that we are staying in Pest rather than Buda. I’m not sure we knew that before today!
After brunch we wander through the maze of streets that is Budapest towards the famous market hall. Along the way Jacky and I visit the Kazinczy Street Synagogue, an Art Nouveau orthodox synagogue built between just before WWI. It’s beautiful inside but no longer in regular use.

Lots of photos taken along our route.

Eventually we make it to the amazing Great Market Hall, the oldest and largest market hall in Hungary opened in 1897. It was badly damaged in WWII and not restored until 1997. It’s a fabulously huge building with every type of gift and souvenir on sale on the top floors and a food market on the ground floor. It’s packed with tourists and locals.

After the market and the purchase of a fridge magnet of course, we stop for a cuppa and then take a tram ride along the river and around the outside of the impressive and beautiful parliament building.

We are now on the Buda side of the city near the Chain bridge and take the rather expensive funicular up to the top of Castle Hill to see many of the royal palaces and buildings being rebuilt from scratch based on original architecture drawings. Great views of the river and the city from the top of the hill. After a wander around we stop for a beer.

We walk back down the hill and then take the tram back to the apartment. T preps Cajun dirty rice and then we go out for a few beers before dinner. Another busy, tiring but really enjoyable day.
