Bratislava…in the sunshine

The sun is shining today. After breakfast in the apartment we head out to take the tram to Bratislava Castle. At the tram station is a girl with the most amazing hair!

Sessie and Bev head off to try and book reservations on the train for our journey tomorrow to Budapest. We take two trams, the second of which travels through a tunnel under the castle. We realise we’ve gone too far and catch the return tram before walking up the hill to the top. Very soon Bev and Mark join us but not before climbing up the hill via a set of very steep steps – 75 floors on Fitbit!

The castle on the outside is disappointing. Lots of windows and looks more like a huge hotel rather than a castle. Great views back into Bratislava over the Danube though. The formal gardens are pretty. We don’t pay to enter.

Time for a drink so we wander to a nearby restaurant terrace, next to the parliament building, and enjoy a beer overlooking the Danube, which is very green rather than blue.

Down the side of the castle back into the old town we visit the site of a demolished Synagogue and the nearby St Martin’s cathedral.

After a wander through an Italian market we find a restaurant on a nearby side street and enjoy a late lunch. I wash mine down with a lovely glass of fizz.

Back to the flat for a rest and wash and brush up. Jacky beavers away making chicken curry for dinner later.

Around 7pm we wander across the road to the Urban Bar which is in a little park at the centre of many new apartment buildings. Beer and fizz are enjoyed sitting outside in the warm evening. First midge bites of the holiday.

The chicken curry is lovely accompanied by naan, rice and homemade chutney. A tasty end to a lovely day.
