Bratislava

Bacon and egg for breakfast and then we leave at 11am to visit the market in old town Bratislava.

It’s overcast, blowy and rainy today. Not the weather we were expecting so have to go back to flat for our hoodies. Luckily we have a tram stop in front of the apartment block. It’s €0.90 for up to a 30 minute trip on the trams and buses. The number 4 tram takes us on a 5 minute ride to the old town. The market is busy as it’s Saturday and full of food, drink, craft, books and art sellers. Lots of farms represented selling a wide range of food as well as a couple of vineyards. In the market hall there’s what looks like an unusual cling film overhead sculpture.

We wander around the old town for a bit enjoying the squares and buildings which are generally well maintained. Once the rain hits we enjoy a cuppa and some apple cake. Wandering up towards the castle it’s starting to rain again, a little harder this time, so we decide to leave the rest of our sightseeing to tomorrow when sunshine is promised.

Back at the apartment we read, rest and crib is played. Girls rule as Bev beats T and Sessie 5 to 1 and 0!

After showers we leave the apartment just before 6pm and tram again into the centre and try beer in a brew pub. We’re booked into a traditional restaurant for 7pm. We order far too much food and it’s all ok but not amazing.

Full to bursting, most of us go for a few drinks to our local. We sit inside this time. A varied and enjoyable day.
