Early start today to catch the 6:35am train to London St Pancras. A quick visit to M&S to buy lunch and then through security and passport control into a very rammed and too small Eurostar waiting area.

The train to Brussels leaves on time at 9:01am and it’s very busy. After much popping of our ears travelling through the tunnel, there’s not much to see through the windows on our two hour journey, as the world outside is damp and misty.

We arrive in Brussels ten minutes late and have to run like mad to make it from platform 1 to platform 5 to catch the Frankfurt train. We literally just make it onto the train and the doors shut. The 3.5hrs journey is ok but we have to play musical seats a bit to ensure we are not sitting in reserved seats at the various stops on the way. Weather is clearing up too and the sun is shining again.

At Frankfurt we manage to change to the 15:50pm train with no problem even though it’s another quick transfer. It’s actually delayed leaving and very busy. On the stop in Cologne lots of people get on and throw some of us out of our seats but eventually more are found right at the front of the train. A couple of cold beers help ease the journey.

We arrive in Munich in the rain and literally walk around the corner to our hostel just in time for one beer at happy hour price before it ends at 8pm. After a second beer we stash our bags in our room and find a local restaurant Münchner Stubn where we enjoy Bavarian specialities. The dumplings are not good.

And so to bed ….in our 6 bed, 3 bunk bed very warm room! Happily I’m on the bottom bunk.
